Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)
Alimentz® will not inhibit or block the production of acid thus allowing for your stomach acid to be produced digesting food. The stomach acid stays where it belongs, so it can do its work of beginning the digestion process. The gel barrier may last for more than an hour (generally much longer lasting than antacids), and is eventually passed to the intestines and eliminated.
Proton pump inhibitors are a group of drugs designed to reduce gastric acid production. They are the most potent inhibitors of acid secretion available today.
* Omeprazole (brand names: Losec®, Prilosec®, Zegerid®)
* Lansoprazole (brand names: Prevacid®, Zoton®, Inhibitol®)
* Esomeprazole (brand names: Nexium®)
* Pantoprazole (brand names: Protonix®, Somac®, Pantoloc®)
* Rabeprazole (brand names: Rabecid®, Aciphex®, Pariet®)
* H2-receptor antagonists (H2As)
H2 antagonists are a group of drugs used to block the action of histamine on parietal cells in the stomach, decreasing acid production by these cells.
